Volleyball Ousted by Saint Louis, 3-0

CHARLOTTE, NC -- The sixth-seeded GW volleyball team fell to No. 3 seed Saint Louis, 3-0, in the opening round of the 2007 Atlantic 10 Volleyball Championship Friday at UNC Charlotte's Halton Arena. The defending A-10 champion Billikens needed just 90 minutes to end the Colonials' season by the scores 30-21, 30-23, 30-20.
In the only other meeting between the teams this season, SLU defeated the Colonials back on Oct. 21 at Smith Center by the scores, 30-17, 30-18, 30-18.
GW senior Janine Brown led the Colonials with 10 kills and had six digs falling short of her 28th double-double of the season. Junior Liz Moult added nine kills and a pair of solo blocks while Abby Syverson slammed eight kills and hit a team-best .263. Senior setter Jess Buche ended her college career assisting on 27 of GW's 31 total kills.
Saint Louis (23-6, 10-3 A-10) had four players with double-figure kills led by Sammi McCloud and Lauren Christman with 12 kills each while Bridget Fonke and Sutton Lasater added 10 kills apiece. Whitney Roth assisted on 46 of the Billikens' 51 kills and Whitney Behrens recorded a match-high 24 digs.
GW ends the season with a 13-17 overall record, 5-8 in the A-10. Brown ends her career with 1,107 kills to rank 6th on the GW career kills list. Her 1,072 career digs ties her with Sarah Hokom (`03) for 11th on the Colonials all-time career digs list. Coach Jojit Coronel's career record stands at 119-115 (.509) overall and 54-59 (.478) in A-10 matches. Coronel's teams are now 3-3 in the A-10 Tournament.
