Today's Game: George Washington (12-4, 3-1 A-10) hosts Charlotte in the first of two regular-season meetings this year. GW travels to Charlotte on Mar. 1.
• GW is coming off a 63-58 victory over Richmond Wednesday at Robins Center. Maureece Rice led all players with 14 points and Dokun Akingbade added a 12-point, 11-rebound double-double, his third of the season.
• In their last meeting, GW defeated Charlotte in one of the most exciting games ever played at Smith Center. The overtime victory preserved GW's perfect 16-0 A-10 record and etched the Colonials into the A-10 record books as only the fourth time a team had `run the table.'
• The Colonials have won 20 of their last 21 A-10 games.
• GW also has won 30 of its last 34 regular-season games and its 22-game home winning streak at Charles E. Smith Athletic Center ranks behind only four teams nationally: Gonzaga, Air Force, Brigham Young and Memphis which have longer home winning streaks.
• Charlotte (8-8, 2-2) is coming off a 80-59 victory over Dayton Wednesday at home. Junior G Leemire Goldwire led four 49ers in double figures with 30 points while De'Angelo Alexander and Carlos Williams added 13 points each. Charlotte shot 46.8 percent (22-47) for the game, including 11-21 (52.4%) from three-point range.
A Closer Look at Charlotte: Coached by 9th-year head coach Bobby Lutz, the 49ers come to Smith Center fresh off a 80-59 victory over Dayton Wednesday that Lutz called his team's best game of the year. The 49ers are led by Oklahoma transfer De'Angelo Alexander's 19.3 ppg (44 threes, 7.1 rpg) and Leemire Goldwire's 13.2 ppg (40 threes). He ranks fourth in the A-10 in FT shooting at 86% (79-99). E.J. Drayton averages 12.8 ppg and ranks second in the A-10 in rebounding with 8.7 rpg. Charlotte has had trouble on the road (1-5) this season that includes a 15-point road victory at Richmond Jan. 13, where GW managed a five-point win just four days later. Charlotte leads the league in three-point FGs made (8.56).
