Volleyball Suffers Second Straight Loss, 3-0, to Appalachian State

BLACKSBURG, VA -- The George Washington volleyball team suffered its second straight loss Saturday morning. The Colonials were swept, 3-0, by Appalachian State in the Hokie Invitational at Blacksburg, VA. ASU won the match by the scores, 32-30, 30-17, 30-27, at Virginia Tech's Cassell Coliseum.
"We were mentally flat," GW head coach Jojit Coronel said. "Our passing and ball control were poor. We need to focus and be more aware of situations so we can execute better."
GW senior hitter Abba Greenleaf and sophomore Liz Moult led the Colonials with seven kills each as no Colonial reached double figures in kills.
GW, playing its fifth straight match without injured starter Janine Brown, were out-hit by the Mountaineers, .297 to .103. ASU amassed 58 kills for the match compared to 32 kills for GW.
Appalachian State improved to 5-3 while GW fell to 6-2.
GW (6-2) aims to get back on the winning track when it faces Liberty (0-5) at 5 p.m. Saturday in Blacksburg. Liberty lost to Appalachian State Friday by the scores, 30-15, 30-18, 30-24, in the opening match of the Hokie Invite. The Flames play the host Hokies Saturday afternoon prior to the GW match.
