The Musketeers led throughout much of games three and four with a total of thre ties and just one lead change combined for the two games. After the slow start, Xavier outplayed GW on both sides of the net and amassed 69 kills to 48 for GW. Xavier also out-hit GW .300 to .142 and collected 71 digs to 59 for the Colonials. Both team totalled eight blocks and GW had more success from the serving line with seven aces compared to five for XU.
Xavier, which played just eight players in the match, had four different players with double-figure kills led by Danielle Skrajewski's match-high 22 kills and four block assists for 24 points. Jenni Horvath and Ruth Kelly each tallied 16 points for the Musketeers. Horvath slammed 16 kills while Kelly added 14 kills. Xavier improved to 8-7, 2-0 in the A-10 and denied GW coach Jojit Coronel his 100th career victory on his 35th birthday.
GW (7-6, 0-1 A-10) will aim to get Coronel his milestone triumph when it travels to Duquesne Friday to face the Dukes in a 7:00 p.m. match at the A.J. Palumbo Center in Pittsburgh, PA.
