WASHINGTON, DC -- Tyrone E. Lockhart has been named Director of Basketball Operations for men's basketball at The George Washington University, head coach Karl Hobbs has announced.
Lockhart comes to GW after spending the past 13 years in Colorado working for the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) in Colorado Springs, and as an assistant for Basketball Operations for the NBA's Denver Nuggets. Most recently, Lockhart served as the Director of Games Operations for the 2006 North American Indigenous Games, a 16-sport competition consisting of 7,000 athletes and coaches from the lower 48 states and 16 provinces and territory from Canada.
Prior to that, Lockhart served as Manager, Sports Partnerships in the Sports Performance Division of the USOC and was responsible for working with National Governing Bodies (NGB) to develop strategic high performance plans that create an environment for athletes to train, develop and compete at the highest level. He joined the USOC in September, 1993, and has held various positions within the organization. Lockhart also was responsible for administering all sponsorship value-in-kind contracts for the USOC and served as a planning coordinator in the USOC Executive Office.
Prior to joining the USOC, Lockhart was employed in the tax and audit division of Arthur Andersen & Co, in Washington, D.C., where his duties included reviewing and preparing individual, partnership, and corporate tax returns in the public and private sectors in the real estate and financial services industries.
Lockhart was an assistant basketball coach at Texas A&M University at Kingsville for three seasons and earned a Masters of Business Administration from Texas A&M at Kingsville. He is a 1987 graduate of Georgetown University with a Bachelor's of Science degree in accounting and played on the Hoyas' 1984 NCAA Championship Team and the 1985 NCAA Championship finalist basketball team.
"Tyrone brings a solid background of organizational skills and a strong familiarity with college basketball," Hobbs said. "We're delighted to have him join our staff."
Lockhart succeeds former GW Director of Basketball Operations, Greg Collucci, who was promoted to Assistant Coach for the Colonials.
GW (27-3, 16-0 A-10) is coming off the best year in the program's 92-season history. GW became just the fourth team in the 30-year history of the Atlantic 10 to go undefeated in the league. After posting a 26-1 regular-season record that included 18 straight victories, GW won its first-round game in the Atlanta Region over UNC Wilmington prior to losing to overall No. 1 seed Duke in the second round.
