Volleyball Takes Liberty, 3-0

BLACKSBURG, VA -- The George Washington volleyball team snapped a two-match slide by defeating Liberty, 3-0, Saturday in its final match of the Hokie Invitational at Blacksburg, VA. Senior co-captain Juliene McLaughlin led all players with 19 kills and hit .429 for the match as GW prevailed by the scores, 30-26, 30-28, 30-23 at Virginia Tech's Cassell Coliseum.
The Colonials placed third in the four-team Hokie Invitational won by the host Hokies (6-3). Appalachian State (5-4) was second and Liberty (0-7) was fourth.
GW senior hitter Abba Greenleaf was the only other Colonial with double figures in kills as she pounded 15 to go with nine digs. Senior Kelly Kabbes assisted on six blocks as GW had a season-high 22 block assists. Setter Kaimana Lee assisted on 43 of hte Colonials' 52 kills.
GW, playing its sixth straight match without injured starter Janine Brown, out-hit the Flames, .234 to .112. GW amassed 52 kills for the match compared to 41 kills for Liberty.
GW (7-2) next competes in the Black & Gold Challenge hosted by Wake Forest this Friday-Saturday, Sept. 15-16, in Winston-Salem, NC.
