Bambenek Promoted To Associate Head Coach for GW Volleyball

WASHINGTON, DC - Amy Bambenek has been promoted to Associate Head Coach for the George Washington University volleyball program, GW head coach Jojit Coronel has announced. Now in her sixth season with the Colonials, Bambenek joined Coronel's staff in March, 2001.
Bambenek came to GW from Florida State University where she has served as a Seminoles' assistant coach for three seasons.
A 1998 graduate of Coastal Carolina University in Conway, SC, with a bachelor of arts degree in business management, Bambenek was a four-year starter who helped lead the team to the Big South Conference title and an NCAA Tournament appearance in 1996.
The Chillicothe, OH native ranks among Coastal Carolina's top three all-time leaders in career kills, attacks and digs. She earned a master of science degree in sports administration from Florida State in May 2000. In May 2001, she did an apprenticeship with the USA National men's volleyball team during the World League competitions. Bambenek also was inducted into the Chillicothe High School Athletic Hall of Fame in December 2001.
In 2005 and 2006, she has worked as a GW/Nike Camp director and she is CAP Level I certified (Coaches Accreditation Program) through USA volleyball. Also this past summer she coached the Cheasapeake Regional USA High Performance juniors team which competed in a national tournament in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. In the spring of 2006 she served as a coaching consultant for Arlington Volleyball Club in Northern Virginia. Bambenek also serves on the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Assistant Coaches Committee.
GW, 14-15 last season, opens the 2006 campaign in the DC Challenge, August 25-26, against Georgetown in a match that will take place at American University's Bender Arena on August 25. GW will then host American and George Mason on August 26 at Charles E. Smith Athletic Center.
