Men's Soccer Earns Point at Fordham

BRONX, NY - George Washington senior forward Joseph Siegel scored two goals and junior Thomas Stuber added three points to help the Colonials' men's soccer team to a 3-3 tie against regionally-ranked Fordham in Atlantic 10 Conference play at Jack Coffey Field on Friday.
GW (4-6-2, 1-2-1 A-10) led by two goals on two separate occasions in the match, but the Rams, who are tied for fourth in the NSCAA Mid-Atlantic region and have been ranked as high as No. 12 in the country, benefited from a pair of penalty-kick goals, forced overtime and earned the eventual draw. The match was GW's eighth consecutive against an opponent that either is currently regionally-ranked or was at the time the teams met. The Colonials are 3-4-1 during that eight-game span.
Siegel tallied his second goal of the season in the 30th minute via dual assists from Stuber and freshman Erick Perez-Segnini. Stuber's cross was deflected by the rookie midfielder directly to Siegel, who deposited a low, one-timed shot into the net to give GW a one-goal cushion.
Stuber tallied his team-leading sixth goal of the year just over five mintues later when he slotted a 15-yard shot past Fordham's Doug Devereaux.
Fordham (6-2-4, 0-2-2 A-10) was awarded a penalty kick in the 41st minute when a Colonials' player was called for a hand-ball inside the box. The Rams' Kevin Meyer converted the shot for his fifth goal of the season.
In the 60th minute, Siegel finished a long-ball set-up from junior Greg McKay for his 10th career goal and GW's second two-goal advantage of the match. Siegel and Stuber are the Colonials' active leading scorers with 28 and 21 career points, respectively.
Meyer buried his second penalty kick of the match in the 76th minute after the Colonials were guilty of a foul in the box. Omero Rozen scored the equalizer in the 81st minute to force extra time.
Junior goalkeeper Matt Scheer, making only his second career start, preserved the tie by making four saves on 13 shots faced, including two stops in the second overtime period. Devereaux made five saves on 10 Colonials' shots. There were a combined five yellow cards and 57 fouls in the match.
GW remains in New York State to take on St. Bonaventure in Atlantic 10 action on Sunday at 1:00 pm.
