Volleyball Blocked by Billikens, 3-0

ST. LOUIS, MO -- The GW volleyball team lost to hot-hitting Saint Louis squad, 3-0, in an Atlantic 10 Conference match Sunday afternoon in St. Louis. The Billikens won by the scores, 30-19, 30-20, 30-21 in one-hour, 28 minutes. Saint Louis combined to hit .380 for the match with 54 kills and 9.5 total blocks at SLU's Bauman-Eberhardt Center.
GW senior Abba Greenleaf scored 15 points on a team-high 14 kills and a pair of block assists. No other Colonial scored in double-figures. Senior Juliene McLaughlin added eight points on eight kills.
SLU's Tatyana Menshikova scored 15.5 points on 13 kills and five block assists to lead the Billikens. Angela Powers added 11 kills and Whitney Behrens led SLU with 14 digs
GW built a 10-8 lead in game one before Saint Louis scored the next 10 points to take command en route to the 30-19 victory. GW again took an early lead in game two at 4-0 but the Billikens were hitting on all cylinders with a team attack percentage of .515 (21 kills, four errors, in 33 attempts) to coast to a 30-20 triumph.
Game three was never in doubt as SLU began the game with a 3-0 lead and never trailed. The Billikens' Mo Shortal provided the game-winning kill in all three games.
Attack errors doomed GW as they gave away 28 points on misfires and service errors compared to 21 errors by SLU. The Billikens combined to block 19 GW attacks, to more than double the Colonials' eight block assists.
The Colonials fell to 8-8, 1-3 in the A-10 while Saint Louis won its fourth straight match to improve to 11-6 and remain unbeaten in the A-10 at 4-0.
GW (8-8, 1-3 A-10) aims for its second A-10 victory when it travels to Charlotte Saturday for a 7:00 p.m. match against the 49ers.
