CINCINNATI, OH -- The George Washington volleyball team suffered a three-game sweep at the hands of the University of Cincinnati, 30-23, 30-28, 30-11 Friday afternoon in the State Farm Bearcat Invitational at UC's Fifth Third Arena.
The Bearcats had an outstanding team hitting performance with a .435 percentage (56-9-108) committing only nine errors in 108 attempts. GW hit .195 as a team with 42 kills and 20 errors in 113 attempts. UC hit an errorless .760 in game three with 19 kills in 25 attacks.
GW's Janine Brown hit her season-high .400 with a match-high 15 kills in 30 swings with just three errors.
GW senior captain Jessica Vesey was the only Colonial with double-figure digs (13). GW junior Juliene McLaughlin added eight kills.
Cincinnati (4-4) was led by Maria Pongonis's 13 kills while teammate Jenny Custer hit .500 with 12 kills and just one error. Melissa Zenz led the Bearcats with 17 digs..
The Colonials (2-7) will try to snap their six-match skid when they face Jacksonville (AL) State Friday at 5:00 p.m.
