Softball's Elana Meyers Named A-10 Academic All-Conference

WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington University sophomore Elana Meyers (Douglasville, GA/Lithia Springs) became the first Colonial in softball history to earn Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference honors, the league office announced on Thursday. Meyers, who started all 44 games for GW at shortstop, led the A-10 Conference in triples (4) and ranked second in stolen bases (21).
"Elana has been the backbone of our softball program here at GW the past three years," Colonials' head coach JoAnne Ferguson said. "Her speed, consistent bat and steady defense played an instrumental role in our success this season."
Meyers, who maintains a 3.92 GPA in Exercise Science, is one of just 11 student-athletes on the prestigious academic all-conference team, selected in a vote by the league's Sports Information Directors. In order to be eligible, players must be a starter or important reserve on their respective team with a cumulative 3.0 GPA or better for their academic career.
In just the Colonials' third year of softball, Meyers helped lead the squad to a program-best 10 victories, a season-high five conference wins and a sixth-place finish in the nine-team league. Statistically, Meyers led GW in batting average (.329), runs (27), hits (47), triples (4), steals (21) and at-bats (143). She also had three home runs and nine RBI, to go along with a team-high 88 assists in the field.
