Women's Basketball Inks Five for Next Season

WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington women's basketball team has received National Letters of Intent from five scholastic standouts Coach Joe McKeown has announced. Twins Jessica Adair and Jazmine Adair from Anacostia High School in Washington, DC have agreed to join the Colonials in 2005-06, along with Jamila Bates, Chantelle John, and Faith Peters.
"This is one of the best classes we've signed in quite a while," McKeown said. "I think we've filled a lot of our needs with the players we've brought in and I believe it's one of the top classes in the country."
Jessica Adair (6-4, Anacostia/Washington, DC) was a four-time DCIAA All-East selection and became the first player in Anacostia school history to score over 1,000 career points. She averaged 17.0 points per game and 15.0 rebounds per game as a senior and was named to the Washington Post's All-Met Third Team. Jessica was a 2004-05 Street & Smith's Preseason Honorable Mention All-American and participated in the 2004 NIKE All-America Camp. As a junior, she averaged 15.0 points per game and was a second-team All-Met selection.
Her twin sister, Jazmine Adair (6-3, Anacostia/Washington, DC), was a two-time DCIAA All-East pick and averaged 11.0 points per contest and 13.0 rebounds per game in her senior year. Like Jessica, Jazmine was a 2004-05 Street & Smith's Preseason Honorable Mention All-American and participated in the NIKE All-America Camp in 2004.
Bates (6-1, Garfield/Seattle, WA) helped lead Garfield High School to the Class 4A state championship in 2005. She averaged 9.1 points and 9.4 rebounds per outing as a senior and was a second-team all-state selection. She was also named to the King County All-Conference Second Team and participated in the 2005 Washington vs. Oregon All-Star Game. Bates was a 2004-05 Street & Smith's Preseason Honorable Mention All-American and an Upperclass All-Star in 2004.
John (6-2, Stoneleigh-Burnham School/Greenfield, MA) averaged 14.7 points per game and 10.9 rebounds per outing as a senior. She also averaged 2.0 blocks per game and shot 58 percent from the field (128-241). John received the team's 2005 Coaches Award for best overall performance and was named a 2005 New England Preparatory Council "A" All-Star. She was also selected to the Stonleigh-Burnham Holiday Classic All-Tournament Team. A native of Scarborough, Ontario, John competed for the Canadian Junior National Team that qualified for the FIBA U-19 World Championship for the first time. She was second on the squad in rebounding (8.4 rpg), third on the team in scoring (7.6 ppg) and grabbed a team-best 13 rebounds in Canada's bronze-medal victory over Brazil at the FIBA Americas U-18 World Championship Qualification Tournament.
Peters (5-10, University Laboratory School, Baton Rouge, LA) was a two-time participant in Louisiana's East/West All-Star Game. As a senior, she averaged 19.4 points per game and 4.0 rebounds per outing. She also chipped in 2.0 assists per game and averaged 2.1 steals per contest. She earned all-metro and all-state honors twice and was named the district's MVP in 2005.
