WASHINGTON, DC - GW (9-2, 3-0 Atlantic 10) aims for its fourth conference win of the year and its sixth straight victory when it hosts Duquesne (7-2, 2-0 Atlantic 10) at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 10 at the Mount Vernon Athletic Complex.
The Colonials tied the progam record on April 8 with their fifth straight triumph, beating St. Bonaventure, 9-8. It was GW's ninth win of the year, breaking the school's single-season record for victories. A triumph over Duquesne would improve GW's league record to 4-0, which would represent the best start to the conference season in school history.
GW's win against St. Bonaventure was its fifth one-goal game of the year, already surpassing last year's season total of four, and the Colonials own a record of 5-0 in those contests. It is highest total of one-goal matches in the program's four-year history.
Freshmen Katelyn Honeyford and Kristin Karcsh teamed up to tally the game-winner at 58:16 versus the Bonnies and rookie goalie Caitlin Garman set a new career high with seven saves to record her fourth win of the season.
Duquesne also picked up its fifth win in a row, defeating Richmond, 11-9, on April 8 at First Market Stadium in Richmond, VA. The Dukes haven't lost since falling to American Lacrosse Conference foe Ohio State on Feb. 26.
The Dukes have given up five goals or less four times this season and entered the week ranked ninth in the nation in scoring defense.
Reigning A-10 Player of the Year Ginger Flocco scored five points against Richmond and leads the squad with 37 (27g, 10a). Junior attacker Kelly Mulford took home Atlantic 10 Player of the Week honors last week after notching the game-winning goals against St. Mary's (CA) on March 28 and St. Bonaventure on April 1. She scored 10 points in the two games (8g, 2a) and has 16 goals and 21 points on the season.
Goaltender Sarah Pacini has played every minute in the crease for Duquesne and entered this week ranked sixth in the nation in save percentage (.574) and eighth in goals-against average at 7.38.
Sunday's contest marks the midway point in GW's seven-game homestand.
The Colonials have never beaten Duquesne. They are 0-3 against the Dukes all-time, including a 17-10 loss in Pittsburgh, PA last year.
