Women's Lacrosse in Hunt for Regular Season Title

WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington (13-3, 5-1 A-10) has a chance to win its first-ever regular-season conference title when it plays Temple (9-6, 5-1) at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 1 at Geasey Field. The Colonials can lock up the crown with a win over the Owls and a Duquesne loss at La Salle.
The Colonials have already qualified for the Atlantic 10 Championship, which will be held on May 6 and 7 at Richmond. GW sealed a bid to the tournament with a 14-8 triumph over Massachusetts on April 24.
The Buff and Blue are receiving votes again in the most recent IWLCA poll. The Colonials garnered 26 points, six points short of Stanford, which holds the 20th spot in the poll with 32 points.
Against Massachusetts, freshman goalie Caitlin Garman made a career-high eight saves and posted her ninth win of the year, a GW single-season record. She has 48 saves on the season and ranks second in the nation in goals-against average.
GW's 14 scores versus the Minutewomen tied the single-season team record for goal at 185 and its seven assists in the contest increased its season total to 87, another team single-season standard.
Senior Jamie Lee and sophomore Laura Hostetler are also on the brink of making team history against the Owls. Both players have a chance to become the first Colonial to reach the 100 career goals mark. Lee enters the contest as GW's all-time leading goal scorer with 98. Hostetler is close behind with 95.
Another first could occur on Sunday. The Colonials have never beaten the Owls, losing the previous three pairings between the two clubs.
Temple has won its last three matches and is 9-6 overall. The Owls knocked off Massachusetts in its most recent outing, 12-6, on April 29. Versus the Minutewomen, Allson Frengs and Patty Glavin combined for seven of the team's 12 goals. The playerss rank one and two on team in total points. Frengs has 46 and Flavin has 37. The pair has scored 50 percent of Temple's goals this season (71-142).
Temple goaltender Megan McLouth ranks third in the A-10 in save percentage at .488 and made 117 stops this season.
