PHILADELPHIA, PA - Sophomore Laura Hostetler and freshman goaltender Caitlin Garman each took home weekly conference lacrosse honors for their performances in two Colonials' victories last week. Hostetler was picked as the co-Player of the Week, sharing the honor with Jackie Swansburg of Richmond, and Garman was named the Rookie of the Week for the second straight time.
Hostetler became the Colonials' career scoring leader with two goals and two assists against Colgate on April 17. She now has 126 career points in 31 games (4.1 ppg). Her two assists versus the Raiders increased her season total to 19, a new single-season mark, and her two scores upped her total for the year to 45, matching her single-season goals scored record established in 2004. She leads the conference in points with 64, also a new GW single-season standard. Against Saint Joseph's on April 15, Hostetler registered six goals and four assists, tying her own school record for points in a game with 10.
Garman improved to 7-1 on the season by playing all 60 minutes in the cage versus the Hawks. She also played the second half against Colgate and allowed just two goals, while making two saves to help the Colonials defeat the Raiders, 12-8. Garman leads the A-10 in goals-against average at 6.09 and her seven victories are one shy of the GW single-season wins mark.
The Colonials will wrap up their home schedule on Friday, April 22 with a 4:00 p.m. contest versus St. Mary's (CA) at the Mount Vernon Athletic Complex.
