Colonials Host George Mason on Thursday

WASHINGTON, DC - The GW women's lacrosse team (1-0) will look to go 2-0 for the first time in team history when it hosts George Mason at 3:30 p.m. at the Mount Vernon Athletic Complex on Thursday, March 10. The Colonials have won their season-opening games the past three seasons, but have never started the year with consecutive wins.
George Washington handed William & Mary a 13-12 defeat on March 1 in its season opener and had its contest scheduled for March 8 versus Longwood postponed. Following its triumph over the Tribe, GW received votes in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) top 20 poll for the first time in school history.
Against William & Mary, sophomore Laura Hostetler led the Colonials with six goals, one short of the team record she set last year against Mount St. Mary's. Junior transfer Annie Howley scored her first points in a GW uniform in the match with two tallies and an assist. Senior captain Meghan McDonough, who notched the game-winner versus the Tribe with nine seconds to play, also registered three points in the contest.
George Mason lost its first two games of the season, falling to North Carolina, 10-3, on Feb. 27 and Virginia Tech, 11-8, on March 5. Laura King leads the squad with six goals, but the Patriots are averaging just 5.5 tallies per contest. Meg Dentler has played every minute between the Pipes for Mason and has 27 saves.
The Colonials are 0-3 against Mason all-time, including a 14-6 loss at the hands of the Patriots in Fairfax, VA last season.
