Colonials Prep for A-10 Rival Richmond

WASHINGTON, DC - The Colonials women's lacrosse team (5-2, 1-0 Atlantic 10) will play the second of three games in a five-day span on Friday, April 1 when they take on conference foe Richmond (2-5, 0-0 Atlantic 10) at First Market Stadium at 3:00 p.m.
GW is in the midst of one of its toughest stretches in its 2005 schedule. The Colonials knocked off 17th-ranked Towson, 11-10, in overtime on March 30 and they will return home Sunday, April 3, following the Richmond contest, for a match with Denver at 12:00 p.m. before getting a much deserved rest.
Against Towson, the Colonials rallied from five goals down in the second half to take the lead before the Tigers forced overtime, but seniors Meghan McDonough and Heidi Mayer teamed up for the game-winning goal with 52 seconds remaining in the second extra session.
Sophomore Emily Fortunato recorded the victory versus Towson and improved her record to 4-1 on the season. Sophomore Laura Hostetler paced GW with three goals in the contest and leads GW with 21 goals and eight assists for a total of 29 points.
The Colonials offense has been dominating this season. They have outscored their opponents, 75-58, and they are averaging almost 11 more shots per game than their foes (30.7-19.9).
Senior Jenny Heisler needs just two points to become the third member of GW's 100-point club. Mayer owns the school record with 111 and senior Jamie Lee has 101. Hostetler is nipping at the trio's heels just seven games into her second season. She has 91 points in 24 career games, an average of 3.8 points per contest.
Richmond has played one of the toughest schedules in the nation to this point. The Spiders lost their first four games versus Maryland, Duke, William & Mary, and Virginia. They posted consecutive wins against American and Old Dominion before falling to Towson, 16-8, on March 27.
Kristin Habicht and Caroline McGuire are the Spiders top two offensive threats with 20 and 17 points, respectively. Jackie Swanburg has played every minute between the pipes for Richmond and has 57 saves.
The Colonials are 1-2 against Richmond all-time with their one victory against the Spiders coming on April 2, 2004 by the score of 11-9 when Richmond was ranked 19th in the nation. Heisler, Lee, and Hostetler each tallied three points in the victory.
