Colonials Clash with No. 12 Johns Hopkins Friday

WASHINGTON, DC - The GW women's lacrosse team (4-1, 1-0 Atlantic 10) will face one of its toughest tests of the season on Friday, March 25 when it battles No. 12 Johns Hopkins (4-2, 3-1 ALC) at 5:30 p.m. at Homewood Field. The Colonials are 0-2 against the Blue Jays all-time.
GW is off to the best start in team history with a 4-1 record and haven't lost since falling to George Mason on March 10. The Colonials hammered American Lacrosse League foe Davidson, 19-6, on March 18 in their most recent outing. GW's 19 goals against the Wildcats was tied for the second-most in team history.
Hopkins, a perennial power in women's lacrosse, has played five of its first six matches on the road. Its game against GW is the first in a three-game homestand. The Blue Jays are 4-2 this year and have won their last three contests, including defeating #16 Vanderbilt on March 18 and George Mason on March 23.
Sophomore Mary Key has terrorized opposing defense for the Blue Jays. She has 28 points in six games (4.66 ppg) and leads the team with 18 goals and 10 assists. Lauren Schwarzmann and Sarah Walsh are tied for second on the squad with 11 points.
Hopkins has outscored its opponents, 65-37, and the Blue Jays are averaging 29.5 shots per contest to 17.3 for their foes.
Goalkeeper Lauren Riddick has played all 360 minutes in the cage for the Blue Jays and owns a 6.17 goals-against average and .471 save percentage.
The Colonials have lost both of its previous meetings with Blue Jays. Last season at Mount Vernon, Hopkins posted a 17-7 victory against GW. It also knocked off the Colonials, 15-4, in 2003.
