La Salle Defeats GW Volleyball for the First Time

PHILADELPHIA, PA -- The George Washington volleyball team fell to La Salle, 3-0, for the first time in 24 meetings Saturday night at La Salle's Tom Gola Arena. La Salle won by the scores 30-25, 30-26, 30-24 in one hour, 34 minutes.
It marked GW's second 3-0 loss in less than 24 hours after falling to Temple yesterday in three games. For La Salle (10-18, 1-10), it marked the Philadephia school's first A-10 victory of the season and first-ever over the Colonials on the volleyball court.
GW (10-15, 3-8 A-10) was led by senior Abigail Hatter (Manassas, VA) who pounded a team-high 13 kills in 25 swings to hit .400 while assisting on six blocks. Juliene McLaughlin (Lindsay, ONT) contributed a double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs. Janine Brown (Jacksonville, FL) added a match-high 23 digs to go with her seven kills.
GW committed 29 attack errors to hit a combined .088 (43-29-159) to the Explorers' .206 (50-17-160).
Ironically on Senior Day, it was a pair of freshmen who led La Salle to victory. Jackie Kushman led all players with 18 kills and had 18 digs. Christa Dominick added 10 kills and just one error for a .333 hitting percentage.
The victory allowed the Explorers to avenge a 3-0 loss to GW back on Sept. 30 at Charles E. Smith Athletic Center. GW owns the all-time series, 23-1, dating back to 1979.
GW travels to Charlotte Thursday for an Atlantic 10 Conference match against the 49ers at 7:00 p.m.
