Women's Basketball Set to Host Rhode Island on Saturday

WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington University women's basketball team is back in action at Smith Center on Saturday, Jan. 29, when it hosts Rhode Island at 7:00 p.m. in an Atlantic 10 Conference match-up. The Colonials are 16-0 all-time against the Rams at home and currently sit in third in the A-10 West with a 5-2 record.
GW (12-6, 5-2 A-10) leads the all-time series against Rhode Island, 28-4. In their lone match-up last season, the Colonials topped the Rams, 60-56, in Kingston.
In its last game, GW fell 72-64 at No. 24/25 Temple on Thursday, Jan. 27, at the Liacouras Center in Philadelphia. Senior forward Anna Montanana (Valencia, Spain) led the Colonials with 22 points on 7-of-18 shooting, while also grabbing a team-high eight rebounds. Junior forward Jessica Simmonds (South Orange, NJ) added 20 points and seven boards, while freshman guard Kimberly Beck (Fairburn, GA) played all 40 minutes and chipped in seven points and six assists.
The Rams enter Saturday's contest 5-14 overall, 3-5 in the A-10 East. Last time out, Rhode Island had its two-game winning streak snapped when it fell to Fordham, 56-53, on Thursday. Senior Peta Kneen, junior Tanya Rhodes and freshman Safi Mojidi each boast double-digit scoring averages for the Rams with Kneen leading the way at 14.9 points-per-game.
The Colonials are 8-0 at home this season and 3-0 against A-10 opponents. All-America candidate Montanana leads GW in scoring at 15.7 points-per-game, while Simmonds is the team's leading rebounder with nearly eight boards each time out.
