Volleyball Sweeps Akron, 3-0, Takes Invitational Title

WASHINGTON, DC -- The George Washington volleyball team turned the corner this weekend winning all three matches in the GW Volleyball Invitational after a dreadful 0-7 start to the season. All-Tournament selection Molly Law (Denver, CO) paced the Colonials' offense with a match-high 18 kills, and added 14 digs and a pair of blocks as the Colonials dominated the Zips, 30-25, 30-26, 30-19 in a one-hour, 39-minute match.
Tournament MVP Juliene McLaughlin (Lindsay, Ontario) contributed 14 kills and 14 digs for her sixth double-double of the season. Sophomore setter Kaimana Lee (Wailuku, HI) assisted on 35 of GW's 45 kills and added 14 digs. Lee joined Law and McLaughlin on the all-tournament team. The Colonials hit .245 with 53 kills compared to .148 for Akron (42-22-135) and had a 61-56 advantage in digs.
Earlier Saturday, Akron downed Jacksonville, 3-0, and Binghamton defeated Jacksonville 3-1.
Akron's Emily Kocinski led the Zips with 12 kills while teammate Mara Capraruolo added 11 kills. UA's Lori Snider, an all-tournament selection, contributed 19 digs.
GW (3-7) opens Atlantic 10 Conference play next Saturday at Duquesne in Pittsburgh, PA.
