Himes Named Assistant Softball Coach

WASHINGTON, DC - Former Ohio State standout Kristine Himes has been hired as the assistant softball coach, head coach JoAnne Ferguson announced today. Himes comes to GW after playing four seasons at Ohio State University. "Kristine was exactly the type of person I was looking for to fill this position," Ferguson said. "She brings incredible energy and enthusiasm to the program and has four years of strong Division I softball experience." Himes will was assist Ferguson in all aspects of the Colonials' softball program including recruiting and developing each hitter's individual batting techniques. She also will work with GW's infielders on the defensive aspects of the game. At Ohio State, Himes was four-year starter at third base from 2000-03 and served as team captain as a senior. Himes hit .286 her senior season and led the team with nine home runs and 34 RBI. She earned All-Big Ten third-team honors the previous season (2002) and was also named to the conference's All-Academic team. Himes was OSU's Rookie of the Year in 2000 and the squad's Defensive Player of the Year in 2001 and 2002. Since leaving the Buckeyes, Himes has worked as private softball instructor. She coordinated daily lessons, teaching players various offensive and defensive strategies to improve their performance. Himes has also worked at the Ohio State softball camp for the past five years where she developed and organized drills and helped oversee the progress of the campers. Himes earned her bachelor's degree in business administration from Ohio State in June, 2004 where she specialized in human resources management with an emphasis on coaching and sports management.
