WASHINGTON, DC - Members of the GW women's basketball team volunteered to help serve breakfast at Miriam's Kitchen, a facility that assists the homeless in the District of Columbia, on the morning of Friday, Oct. 29.
Senior Liz Dancause, sophomores Amanda LoCascio, Kristina Gineitis, graduate student Michaela Leary, and freshmen Sarah-Jo Lawrence and Lora Mitchell took part in the community service project from 6:30-8:00 a.m.
"It's a great way to give back to the community," Dancause said. "We believe very strongly in the mission of Miriam's Kitchen and taking a couple hours out of our day is the least we could do."
Miriam's Kitchen has been serving the homeless in the District of Columbia since 1983. In addition to its breakfast program, the facility also offers a case management program, a transitional housing program, and arts & crafts sessions following breakfast.
The kitchen is located at 2401 Virginia Ave., NW.
GW will begin its season on Saturday, Nov. 6 with an exhibition game versus Everyone's Internet at 1:00 p.m. at the Smith Center.
