GW Names Shaunte' Fremin Head Softball Coach

WASHINGTON, DC - Shaunte' Fremin has been named head coach for softball at The George Washington University, Senior Associate Director of Athletics Mary Jo Warner has announced. Fremin will be responsible for all aspects of the Colonial softball program as it enters its second season of competition.
Fremin joins the Colonials after spending two seasons with the 2003 Southeastern Confernce Champion University of Georgia softball program. Fremin was the head recruiter and hitting coach of a team that finished eighth in the country in batting (.311). Fremin also helped lead the Bulldogs to their best season in school history at 57-14.
A 2000 graduate of Louisiana State University, Fremin was a four-year starter and team captain who served as a graduate assistant on the LSU staff in 2001. Her duties included practice planning, game management and scouting while she concentrated on hitting instruction. While coaching at LSU, Fremin was a part of the 2001 NFCA Regional Coaching Staff of the Year that helped lead the Tigers to their first Women's College World Series.
During the offseason, Fremin oversees the Shaunte' Fremin Power Softball Fastpitch Camp, which teaches players ages 8-18 all phases of fastpitch softball. Fremin also has been a defensive skills instructor at various private camps across Louisiana and Texas and an instructor at the LSU softball camp.
The Colonials have 12 incoming recruits for the 2004 season as the team looks to improve on its 3-36 record from its inaugural season. GW plays its home games at the GW-Mount Vernon campus located at 2100 Foxhall Road in northwest Washington.
