WASHINGTON, DC -- The George Washington University volleyball program has signed three recruits to national letters-of-intent to attend the University this fall, GW head coach Jojit Coronel has announced.
Abigail Greenleaf (Iowa City, IA/Iowa City West H.S.), a 6-foot-2 outside hitter from Iowa, was a standout at Iowa City High School and played for the Iowa Rockets Volleyball Club. She was named the Mississippi Valley Conference (MVC) Player of the Year and to the MVC All-Academic Team as well as All-State Special Mention and Iowa City Press First Team All-Area as a senior. She is a two-time MVC First Team selection as a junior and a senior. She was named First Team All-District as a junior and to the Iowa City Press Second Team All-Area and All-State Honorable Mention. "Greenleaf's size and power on both antennas will make our offense extremely potent as well as versatile," said Coronel. "She is an outstanding student and I have no doubt that she will accomplish all her athletic and academic goals at GW."
Kaimana Lee (Wailuku, HI/Seabury Hall H.S.) is a 5-foot-10 setter from Hawai'i. She played for the 1999-2001 Maui North Shore Volleyball Club where she was named 2001 Player of the Year. Lee also competed for the 2002 Asics Rainbows Volleyball Club. "She is a tremendous defensive player and quarterback whose passion for volleyball is contagious on the court," said Coronel. "Kaimana will make an immediate impact and push senior Lauren Dunning to be an even greater setter."
Juliene McLaughlin (Lindsay, Ontario/Lindsay Collegiate H.S.) is a 5-foot-10 outside hitter from Canada. She becomes the first Canadian to play volleyball at GW. Her squad won the 2002 Gold Medal at the Junior Ontario Open and the Gold medal at the Juvenile McGregor Cup. She competed for the Lindsay Collegiate Vocational Institute (LCVI) in Ontario which was the LCVI Champions for central Ontario Volleyball last year. She was named LCVI Senior Girls Athlete of the Year, the LDVI Volleyball MVP and team captain. "Juliene is one of the most dynamic and athletic volleyball players that we have recruited in some time," Coronel said. "She is a tenacious fighter whose competitiveness and all-around skills will pay huge dividends this fall as we look to solidify our team as one of the top programs in the country."
"Besides being outstanding volleyball players and athletes, their personalities will contribute to our team's chemistry," Coronel added. "Their addition makes our goal of winning another Atlantic 10 championship a greater possibility as well as increasing our potential of advancing in the NCAA Tournament."
