Ryan Roberson Named Atlantic 10 Player Of The Week

WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington sophomore Ryan Roberson (Silver Spring, MD/ James H. Blake) was named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week the conference announced on Monday. Roberson collected 12 RBI in four games this week including eight in a doubleheader against Duquesne. He went 5-6 with three doubles and a grand slam home run in Saturday's two games versus Duquesne.
Roberson has put up amazing numbers this year offensively and leads the Colonials, if not the A-10, with 48 RBI. He has the eighth most RBI per game in the nation at 1.45. He is an RBI machine, generating tons of runs for the Colonials who have outscored opponents 275-184 this season. He is batting a remarkable .900 (18-20) with a runner at third base and fewer than two outs. He also has five sacrifice flies in this situation. He is batting an incredible .727 (8-11) with the bases loaded. Roberson came to the plate three times with the bases loaded during the Duquesne doubleheader and hit a single, double and grand slam home run.
Roberson is batting .363 this year and leads the team in RBI with 48, 15 more than any other teamate. He also leads the team in home runs (6), doubles (11), total bases (76), slugging percentage (.613) and sacrifice flies (5). Additionally, Roberson has 30 runs and 45 hits.
Roberson is the third different GW player to win the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week award this year, joining senior Chris Barry (Orchard Park, NY/Canisius) and sophomore Anthony Raglani (Indiana, PA/Indiana). Colonials' players have won nine A-10 awards collectively this season, second only to Richmond's 10 awards. Other Colonials award winners are: three-time Rookie of the Week Tom Shanley (Stanfordville, NY/Pine Plains), two-time pitcher of the Week Greg Conden (Owego, NY/Owego Free Academy), and Rookie of the Week Josh Wilkie (Alpharetta, GA/Chattahoochee). Shanley was also named GW's Jackie Robinson Award Winner at the second annual Jackie Robinson Day Game on Saturday April 15th. The award, given annually to an outstanding Colonials player, honors his hustle, courage and love of baseball.
