WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington University volleyball program has announced that Shannon Parks (Marietta, GA/George Walton H.S.) has signed a national letter-of-intent to attend the University this fall. GW head coach Jojit Coronel has announced that Parks will join early signees Abby Hatter and Lindsey Vernand as the third volleyball signee for 2002.
A 6-foot middle hitter from Marietta, GA, Parks was a standout at George Walton High School and played for the Atlanta Juniors Volleyball Club where she was coached by GW Hall of Famer Anna Bush ('87). Parks was named the 2001 Cobb County Player of the Year and the 2001 Georgia Player of the Year.
"Shannon is a tremendous competitor who is getting better everyday," said Coronel. "She will make an immediate impact on our team with her size, speed, and agility. Most notably, Shannon loves volleyball. Every time she touches the ball, her passion for the game drives her to be the best player and teammate on the court. Shannon adds to our core of solid middle blockers giving us what could be, three of the best middles in the Atlantic 10 Conference."
