Blankvoort's 66 Wins Rehoboth Beach Invitational

REHOBOTH BEACH, DE - GW's Thomas Blankvoort (Curacao, Netherlands Antilles) tied a 45-year-old school record with a six-under-par 66 in the morning round of the Rehoboth Beach Invitational Monday at the par-72, 6,615-yard Kings Creek Country Club on the Delaware shore. Blankvoort won the tournament by three strokes with a 36-hole 141 as GW placed sixth in the 14-team field.
Rutgers totalled a 602 (308-294) to win the tournament just one stroke ahead of Iona College (303-300-603). American and Columbia tied for fourth with 607 each. Rutgers' Brent Pittman was three strokes off Blankvoort's pace with three players totalling 145s to tie for third.
Blankvoort's 66 equalled the lowest round ever by a Colonial. Jay Randolph ('56) carded a 66 at the 1957 Southern Conference Championship at the Danville (VA) Country Club.
Colonials' junior Brad Friedlander (Baltimore, MD/Pikesville) had one of his better tournaments of the season with a 155 (76-79) to tie for 27th place.
