WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington women's gymnastics team could not catch the Michigan State Spartans tonight in their final season home meet at the Smith Center. Despite the 195.350 to 194.650 loss, GW managed to top several season and career records and win the vault with a team total of 48.900 and the floor exercise (49.325).
The GW seniors each made their mark on "Senior Night." Senior Devin McCalla (Dallas, TX/J.J. She finished third on the vault (9.825) and fourth on the balance beam (9.800). Fellow senior Jessica Mantak (Colonia, NJ/Wardlaw-Hartridge) placed second in the all-around with her new career high of 39.325. Her performance was highlighted with a tie for first place on the vault (9.850), also a career best score. She matched her season best on the floor exercise (9.875), taking second place, and finished in third on both the uneven bars (9.775) and on the balance beam (9.825).
Seniors Jamie McNally (Old Bridge, NJ/Bishop Ahr) and Kelley Banks (Council Bluffs, IA/Saint Albert) also notched new top scores. McNally tied sophomore teammate Rachel Mann (Atlanta, GA/Lakeside), along with Spartans Julie Devaty and Christy Linder, for third place on the floor exercise with a 9.850, her new career best. Mann also placed fourth on the uneven bars (9.750), with Banks trailing closely behind, tying for sixth (9.700). On the floor exercise, Banks scored a 9.825, good enough for seventh, and also her new season best, 9.825.
Besides tying for third on the floor, MSU junior Christy Linder also tied Mantak for first on the vault and sixth on the bars. Fellow junior, Julie Devaty, also managed another tie and a first place finish. She tied Banks and Linder on the uneven bars for sixth and took first on the beam with a 9.900.
