KINGSTON, R.I. (March 23, 2002) - George Washington senior Devin McCalla (Dallas, TX/J.J. Pearce) won the all-around title while leading GW to their fifth consecutive Atlantic 10 Championship this afternoon at Keaney Gym in Kingston, RI. GW finished with a score of 196.375, Massachusetts was second with a score of 193.950, followed by Rhode Island (192.325) and Temple (192.275).

McCalla, who was honored as Performer of the Meet, set a pair of Atlantic 10 Championship records. First, she broke her own conference record of a 9.950 on beam, which she set last year, when she broke A-10 Championship history with a perfect 10.0. Her score earned her first place on the balance beam, while also finishing first on the vault with a 9.875. In the end, McCalla also broke the A-10 Championship record in the all-around, a score she set in 2000, with her 2002 Championship score of 39.675.

Also greatly contributing to GW's win was senior Jessica Mantak (Colonia, NJ/Wardlaw-Hartridge), who placed second in the all-around with her score of 39.400. Mantak was crowned Atlantic 10 champion on the floor exercise, as well as tied for second on the balance beam (9.950), and third on the uneven bars.

The Colonials came out in full force, with many other top performances. Freshman Amber Melvin (Cincinnati, OH/Purcell Morian) tied for third on the vault with a score of 9.700. Senior Jamie McNally Old Bridge, NJ/Bishop Ahr) took sixth on the vault (9.675), as well as tied for fifth on the floor exercise with a 9.850. On the uneven bars, senior Kelley Banks (Council Bluffs, IA/Saint Albert) finished fourth with a 9.825, and also managed sixth on the balance beam (9.850) and tied for fifth on the floor exercise (9.850). Meanwhile, sophomore Lindsay Parks (Council Bluffs, IA/Abraham Lincoln) took fifth on beam with a 9.875 and fourth on floor, also with a 9.875.

Leading Temple and placing third in the all-around was Cicely Warrington. Warrington scored a 38.700, while tying Mantak for second on the balance beam. The Atlantic 10 title on the uneven bars was captured by Massachusetts gymnast, Katie Teft. Teft scored a 9.950 tying the conference record set in 1997.

All-conference accolades were given to McCalla, Mantak, Teft, Warrington, Kelly Labowitz of Rhode Island, and Jen Gendron of Massachusetts.
