Volleyball's Lindsey Vernand Wins A-10 Rookie Award

WASHINGTON, DC - Freshman Lindsey Vernand (Huntington Beach, CA/Huntington Beach) has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Week for volleyball, the league office announced Monday. It marks the third time this season Vernand has won the award. She also was selected for the honor on Oct. 7 and Oct. 21.
In GW's only match of the week, the 6-foot Californian hit .344 with 14 kills while committing just three errors in 32 swings in GW's 3-0 sweep of Duquesne Nov. 2 at Smith Center. She added eight digs and a pair of block assists.
Vernand is currently second on the Colonials in digs with 310 (3.41 dpg) and ranks third on the team in both kills (233) and service aces (25).
Vernand's statistics for the week: one match, three games, 14 kills, three errors in 32 attacks for a .344 hitting percentage, eight digs and two block assists.
The Colonials (15-10, 6-4 A-10) travel to Philadelphia Friday for a match at Temple followed by a Saturday match at La Salle.
