GW Volleyball's Lindsey Vernand Wins A-10 Rookie Award

WASHINGTON, DC - Freshman Lindsey Vernand (Huntington Beach, CA/Huntington Beach) has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Week for volleyball, the league office has announced.
The 6-foot Californian equalled her season-high with 13 kills in GW's 3-0 sweep of La Salle Friday night at Smith Center. She hit .355 (13-2-31) for the match with nine digs and a pair of block assists.
Vernand has been instrumental in helping GW to 10 victories this season, already four more than last season's total. She is currently second on the Colonials in digs with 205 and ranks third on the team in both kills (125) and service aces (21).
Vernand's statistics for the week: two matches, seven games, 16 kills, seven errors in 55 attacks for a .164 hitting percentage, 19 digs, four service aces, a block solo and three block assists. She averaged 2.29 kills and 2.71 digs per game for the week.
The Colonials (10-7, 2-2 A-10) face cross-town rival Georgetown (11-7) Tuesday in a 7:00 p.m. match at Smith Center. The Hoyas are coached by former GW standout, Liu Li.
