Volleyball Falls to Northwestern, 3-1

STOCKTON, CA (Sept. 8) - The GW volleyball team won its first game of the season before dropping three straight games to Northwestern, 30-21, 27-30, 16-30, 16-30, in the Pacific Nike Invitational at Stockton, CA. Three Colonials recorded double-figure kills led by sophomore outside hitter Laura Harrison (West Hills, CA) who had a career-high 13 kills.
Sophomore Ruth Lazzari (Seal Beach, CA) and freshman Britta Stroman (Richfield, MN) each posted double-doubles in the match. Lazzari had 10 kills and 11 digs while Stroman added 10 kills with 10 digs and a pair of block solos.
Sophomore setter Lauren Dunning (Stockton, CA) had a match-high 39 assists.
GW (0-5) hit .042 as a team with 62 digs and seven service aces in the one-hour, 20-minute match. The Colonials had 47 kills in 166 attacks but committed 40 errors.
Northwestern (3-2) was led by Molly Kamp's 11 kills. The Wildcats controlled the net combining for 26 block assists (six each by Kamp and Sarah Ballog) and four block solos. NU hit .197 with 50 kills and 66 digs.
The trip to Stockton represents a homecoming for Dunning and head coach Jojit Coronel. Dunning attended Stockton's St. Mary's High School while playing for the Vision Volleyball Club. Coronel spent five seasons as the assistant coach for the Pacific men's volleyball team.
The Colonials look for their first victory against Connecticut Saturday at 8:00 p.m. (EDT), at Pacific's Alex G. Spanos Center.
