FAIRFAX, VA (Aug. 31) - The GW volleyball team dropped its second match of the day, 0-3, to the College of William & Mary, Friday at George Mason University's John Linn Gym in the Brion's Grille/Patriot Invitational. The Tribe won, 34-32, 30-20, 30-24, in a one-hour, 40-minute match.
Sophomore Sarah Hokom again led GW with 12 kills and nine digs but committed eight attack errors for a .182 percentage. Fellow sophomore Lindsay Ochs hit .389 with nine kills in 18 attempts while committing just two errors.
Sophomore setter Lauren Dunning added 36 assists and five digs in the contest. Hot and humid conditions played a role as both teams struggled with footing and a slippery ball.
GW (0-2) hit .158 as a team with 35 digs and had eight block assists but the Tribe's experience showed as they hit .318 with a total of 12 blocks. William & Mary also out-served the Colonials with 15 service aces compared to just two aces for GW.
W&M (1-0) was led by Stacy Woodson and Christina Hinds with 12 kills each and Tara Tobias' 11 kills and match-high 12 digs.
GW will attempt to get its first victory of the season Saturday when it faces Illinois at 11:00 a.m. The Illini (1-0) were 3-2 winners over Georgetown (0-1) earlier Friday by the scores, 30-27, 30-18, 25-30, 26-30, 15-8. It marks the first meeting between GW and Illinois in volleyball.
