GW's Blankvoort Named All-America Scholar by GCAA

WASHINGTON, DC (June 8, 2001) -- GW's Thomas Blankvoort (Curacao, Netherlands Antilles/International School of the Hague) has been named to the All-America Scholars Division I team for men's golf, as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).
All-America Scholars are recognized for their performances athletically and scholastically. To qualify for the honor, student-athletes must be a junior or senior academically, maintain a minimum grade-point average, compete in at least 75 percent of his team's varsity competitive rounds, and maintain a minimum stroke average set by the GCAA.
Blankvoort's best outing of the season came at the GW Invitational when he shot an even-par 144 (72-72) to capture medalist honors the 29-team tournament, April 1-2, at the par-72, 6,761-yard Swan Point Yacht and Country Club at Issue, MD. He beat 148 golfers to win the event.
Blankvoort, who maintains a 3.6 GPA in international business, led the Colonials with a 75.00 stroke average and had six top 10 finishes and three top 20 finishes in 13 tournaments this past season.
