Volleyball Suffers First Loss to No. 12 Florida

BERKELEY, CA (Sept. 8) GW suffered its first loss of the season September 8 at the hands of the 12th-ranked Florida Gators, 15-6, 15-12, 15-11, in the Golden Bear Classic at the University of California's Recreational Sports Facility. The setback broke GW's five-match, 15-game win streak to open the season under first-year interim coach Jojit Coronel.
Florida came from behind in all three games including a 7-1 deficit in game three.
Senior outside hitter Tracee Brown again led the Colonials with a team-high 13 kills in 28 attacks to hit .286. Setter Jill Levey, a native of Bakersfield, CA, committed her first attack error of the season but still hit .333 with three kills in six attempts to go with 31 assists. The Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Week, Levey led all players with 13 digs.
Colonials senior Renee Arnold added 10 kills and outside hitter Suzana Manole contributed 12 digs and four block assists.
The Gators were led by Nicole McCray's 13 kills and 11 digs from Niki Hartley.
GW (5-1) faces the loser of the California-McNeese State match Saturday at 8:00 p.m. (EST) in the consolation match. Florida (4-2) plays in the championship match at 10:00 pm (EST) Saturday.
