Volleyball Sweeps Robert Morris, Manhattan in Chesapeake Invitational

WASHINGTON, DC (Sept. 2, 2000) - The Colonials volleyball team showed no signs of slowing down as they swept Robert Morris, 15-3, 15-1, 15-8, in the morning game and dispatched Manhattan College, 15-5, 15-7, 15-6, later September 2 to improve their record to 4-0 and capture the 2000 Chesapeake Invitational. GW has not lost a game (12-0) this season.
Led by five seniors in the starting lineup, GW needed just 59 minutes to get by Robert Morris. It marked the Colonials' third straight 59-minute match. GW needed a little longer (1:10) to best Manhattan.
Tracee Brown led GW with 12 kills against Robert Morris as the GW Colonials outhit the RMC Colonials, .376 to -.081.
Senior Suzana Manole added a team-high 10 digs and three block assists as GW out-blocked Robert Morris, 19-2. Robert Morris (0-3) was led by Maryann Liska's five kills.
GW was even better defensively in the nightcap as they blocked 13 Manhattan attacks while out-hitting the Jaspers, .327 to .075.
GW senior Julie Jahnke was the hitting star with a team-high 10 kills for a .476 hitting percentage and six block assists. Senior Jill Levey, who was named to the all-tournament team, contributed 26 assists and a team-high 10 digs.
Manhattan (1-2) was led by all-tournament selection Amy O'Dorisio's nine kills and eight digs.
GW (4-0) plays its first road match of the season Sept. 5 at Maryland-Baltimore County.
