Volleyball Throttles NC State, 3-0

WASHINGTON, DC (Sept. 15) - GW opened the American Volleyball Classic Friday with a convincing 3-0 sweep of North Carolina State by the scores, 15-8, 15-3, 15-5, at American Universitys Bender Arena.
Seniors Tracee Brown and Julie Jahnke led the Colonials with 12 kills each while Suzana Manole added 10 kills.
The Colonials hit .368 as a team with 56 kills compared to 39 kills (.161) for the Wolfpack. GW recorded 39 digs to 30 for the opposition and outblocked NC State, 10-1.
Manole and setter Jill Levey each had a match-high seven digs while Levey posted her seventh errorless hitting match in eight outings with a pair of kills and 32 assists.
Charece Williams led the Wolfpack with 10 kills and six digs. The loss dropped NC State to 4-5 as they prepare to face Purdue Saturday.
GW (7-1) will face the host Eagles of American Saturday at 10:00 a.m. AU (8-1) defeated Purdue, 3-1, in the late match Friday night. The Colonials will face Purdue (8-2) later Saturday in a 5:00 p.m. match. It will mark the first meeting in volleyball between GW and the Boilermakers. The Colonials lead the all-time series with American, 6-1.
