WASHINGTON, DC (September 14, 2000) - George Washington head coach Scott Reed was satisfied with his team's performance this weekend at the Princeton Invitational despite their three losses.
Reed looked past the 1-3 record for the Invitational stressing the marked improvement over the young team's past play. "The team is starting to gel together," said Reed, "they are playing more relaxed."
The Colonials played three matches against teams ranked in the top 20; No. 13 Queens College, No. 16 Princeton and No. 17 St. Francis University. GW was able to play well against Queens, losing a close match 8-12, due to a second quarter surge by the Royals. Unfortunately, the Colonials did not fare as well against the two other ranked teams, losing 7-13 to Princeton and 5-17 to St. Francis.
GW's sole victory was against Slippery Rock University, in a match that the Colonials dominated, outscoring the the Rockets 14-4. Chris Greene and Pat Dodge led all team scorers with 8 goals for the weekend.
Water polo travels to Johns Hopkins for their next match on Friday, September 22.
