Volleyball Outlasts McNeese St., 3-1

BERKELEY, CA (Sept. 9) - GW bounced back from its first loss of the season Friday by defeating McNeese State, 19-17, 14-16, 15-7, 15-8, in a tough four-game match Saturday night to claim third place in the Golden Bear Classic at the University of California's Recreational Sports Facility. Both teams wanted to set the tone in the first game but it was GW which finally prevailed in a match that took two-hours, 25-minutes to complete.
Senior outside hitter Tracee Brown led the Colonials for the second straight match with a team-high 20 kills in 50 swings for a .240 percentage. Setter Jill Levey posted her sixth errorless hitting match in seven outings this season with seven kills and 53 assists to go with a team-high 24 digs. She hit .636 for the match.
Colonials senior Renee Arnold added 16 kills and 23 digs while outside hitter Suzana Manole contributed 15 kills, 14 digs and seven block assists. Senior Julie Jahnke and sophomore Abby Ernst combined for eight block assists each.
Anissa Parker led the Cowgirls from Lake Charles, LA, with 25 kills and Lisa Dupont recorded 24 digs. The loss dropped McNeese State to 3-3.
GW (6-1) returns to Washington to compete in the American Classic this Friday and Saturday at AU's Bender Arena. The Colonials will face North Carolina State Friday at 5:00 p.m., American on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. and Purdue later Saturday in a 5:00 p.m. match.
