First, a USTA nationally ranked 17-year-old senior, was ranked 22nd in Southern California 16-and-under division. She has played at the No. 1 singles position since her freshman year at La Jolla High School. She helped lead La Jolla to the CIF high school championship two of the last three years under coach Maggie Mulkins. She has represented the Southern California Tennis Association in zonals in the 10-, 12- and 14-and-under divisions.
Gencsoy, an 18-year-old senior from Istanbul, has been ranked the No. 1 singles in the 14-, 16- and 18-and-under divisions in Turkey. She has represented Turkey on the junior national and ladies national teams. For the past three years she also has been an alternate for the Federation Cup Turkish team.
I'm very excited that we were able to attract nationally and internationally ranked players, Gengler Swacki said. Lindy and Nazli are two outstanding individuals who I expect will lead our team to new levels of success. The addition of these two players should put our team in contention for the Atlantic 10 title in 2001.
GW, which posted a 7-9 overall record last spring, returns nine letterwinners including Tracy Wei, Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Year in 2000.
GW Women's Tennis signees for 2000-2001:
Lindy First (San Diego, CA/La Jolla H.S.)
Nazli Gencsoy (Istanbul, Turkey/Lycee de Galatasaray)
