Men's Water Polo Receives All-Academic Recognition

WASHINGTON, DC (April 5) -- The George Washington University men's water polo team was honored by the American Water Polo Coaches Association yesterday as an All-Academic Team. The Colonials posted a 2.91 team grade point average enroute to receiving the honor, one of just 21 teams nationally to be recognized.
Individually, senior Doug Maitz (3.57 g.p.a.) and freshman Gur Doitel (3.54 g.p.a.) received Superior recognition, while sophomore Kevin Norman (3.28 g.p.a.) received Excellent recognition.
GW posted a 7-21 record in the pool last fall. Maitz was third on the squad in scoring with 27 goals and assisted on 12 other tallies. Doitel recorded six goals and one assist in 23 appearances. Norman started nine of 28 games, tallying 16 goals and nine assists.
