Volleyball Signs Four Recruits for 2000

Dunning, a 5-foot-5 setter, led St. Mary's to a second-place finish in the SJAA Conference league and section semifinals. St. Mary's has been ranked among the nation's top 25 high school programs last season. Dunning also has played for Club Stockton, Nike Pacific, and currently Vision Volleyball Club. Dunning is the daughter of John Dunning, head volleyball coach and interim Athletics Director at the University of the Pacific. Pacific advanced to the 1999 NCAA Volleyball Final Four and is a perennial volleyball powerhouse.
Lazzari, a 5-10 outside hitter, is her team's captain and a first team all-league selection. She is a member of the Ichiban Volleyball Club which won the Junior Nationals, the Far Western Tournament, the Los Angeles Qualifier, and the AAU Hermosa Beach Qualifying doubles tournament. Her squad placed second in the 2000 Las Vegas Invitational and seventh at the 2000 Kick Off Classic in Los Angeles, CA. Lazzari also qualified for the Junior Olympics in Cleveland, OH, in 1999.
Mereness, a 5-11 setter, has played for Sky High Volleyball Club and led Club Fusion to an 18-1 record as a senior. Her honors include being named All-League, All-Conference and All-State in 1999-2000. She was her team's co-MVP and co-captain in addition to being named the Player of the Year, first team all-conference and state honorable mention.
Ochs, a 6-2 middle blocker, is a two-time Three Rivers All-League selection in 1999 and 2000. She was voted 2000 Defensive Player of the Year and led her team in both kills and blocks. She was an Oregonian Athlete selection in 1999-2000, captain of her high school and club teams and currently plays for Nike Northwest Juniors Volleyball Club.
GW, which posted an 18-11 overall record (12-8 A-10) in 1999, returns five starters including past all-conference selections Tracee Brown, Jill Levey and Julie Jahnke. The Colonials open the 2000 season September 1-2 in the GW Invitational at Smith Center. The Colonials host Howard, Manhattan, and Maryland.
