Women's Basketball Downs Xavier, 70-68

WASHINGTON (AP) - Kristeena Alexander scored 14 of her 16 points in the second half, lifting No. 25 George Washington to a 70-68 victory over Xavier on Sunday and possession of first place in the Atlantic 10 Conference West Division.
GW (21-4, 12-2) now leads Xavier (21-4, 12-3) by a half-game in the West, where the top two teams earn byes in the first round of the Atlantic 10 tournament March 3-6 in Philadelphia.
Elisa Aguilar added 20 points for GW to lead four players in double figures. The Colonials, who won their 19th straight game at home, snapped Xavier's 11-game winning streak.
After scoring six straight points early in the second half to help erase the Musketeers' 10-point halftime lead, Alexander was clutch at the foul line late in the game.
The Colonials led 65-63 with just under two minutes left when she sank two free throws to create a four-point margin.
Amy Waugh scored to pull the Musketeers within two points. But Alexander hit both ends of a one-in-one for a 69-65 lead.
Waugh then sank a 3-pointer with 3.4 seconds left, and GW's Petra Dubovcovato was fouled with 1.7 seconds to play. She made the first shot but missed the second one. The rebound went to Xavier's Kim Hotz, whose heave from three-quarters court bounced off the backboard.
Waugh led Xavier with 20 points.
