WASHINGTON, DC (Nov. 14) For the third straight week, senior Tracee Brown (Garnerville, NY/North Rockland) has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Co-Player of the Week for volleyball. It marks the fourth time this season Brown has been recognized by the conference. She shares this week's honor with Dayton's Sierra Ashley.
Brown played a key role in helping GW to a 2-0 week and clinching the top seed in the Atlantic 10 Tournament with victories over La Salle and Duquesne.
Brown averaged 6.17 kills and 4.83 digs while hitting .321 for the week. She recorded consecutive double-doubles in GW's three-game sweeps Tuesday and Saturday. Brown had 18 kills and 13 digs against La Salle Nov. 7 and 19 kills with 16 digs against Duquesne Nov. 11. She is second in the league in both hitting percentage (.320) and kills-per-game average (5.08).
Brown's statistics for the week: two matches, six games, 37 kills, 11 errors in 81 attacks for a .321 hitting percentage, two assists, two service aces, 29 digs and a block solo.
GW's 23-5 (.875) mark is the best overall record in the league. The Colonials clinched the top seed after Temple fell to UMass Saturday in five games. It marked GW's first regular season title since the 1995 season when the Colonials won the A-10 championship and advanced to the second round of the '95 NCAA Tournament.
The Colonials face fourth-seeded Dayton (18-10, 10-6) Saturday, November 18 in a 1:00 p.m. match at Dayton's Frericks Center. Should the Colonials defeat the Flyers, they will play the winner of the Temple-Xavier match Sunday at 1:00 p.m. for the A-10 title and an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
