Volleyball Wins Battle of Georges, 3-2

FAIRFAX, VA (Oct. 24) - The GW volleyball team won its third straight match with a non-conference road victory at George Mason by the scores, 12-15, 15-10, 10-15, 15-6, 15-7, Tuesday night on the GMU campus in Fairfax, VA.
The Colonials equalled the school record for best attack percentage in a five-game match by hitting .313 with 95 kills in 201 attempts with 32 errors. The performance tied the six-year-old mark set in the 1994 NCAA Tournament first-round match against Wisconsin (100k-32e-217att).
Senior Tracee Brown set the tone with a match-high 29 kills in 50 swings while committing just five errors for a .480 percentage. Senior setter Jill Levey double-doubled with 74 assists and a match-high 15 digs in the match which took two hours, 22 minutes to complete.
GW freshman Lindsay Ochs had the best match of her collegiate career with seven kills in 11 attempts with no errors for a .636 percentage. The middle hitter from Portland, OR, was solid at the net with a career-high seven block assists and a block solo.
After the Patriots took a 5-0 lead to open the match, GW battled back to tie and kept it close before GMU escaped with a 15-12 victory. GW evened the match with 33 kills in game two en route to a 15-10 triumph. The Colonials' hitting improved as the match wore on and were in control thoughout the fourth and decisive fifth games.
Natalia Torres-Tirado led the Patriots with 25 kills and 12 digs. Teammate Aline Pereira added 22 kills for George Mason (12-8).
GW (17-4, 8-1 A-10) returns to conference play Friday with a trip to Rhode Island followed by a Saturday match at Massachusetts.
