WASHINGTON, DC (Oct. 2, 2000) - Senior Tracee Brown (Garnerville, NY/North Rockland) has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Week for volleyball, the conference office has announced.
Brown had her career-high 30 kills (including the game-winner) in GW's 3-1 victory over Rhode Island last Saturday. It marked the first time a GW player tallied at least 30 kills in a match since Nov. 4, 1995 when former GW All-America Svetlana Vtyurina had 35 kills in a five-game match against Rhode Island. The last time a Colonial recorded at least 30 kills in a four-game match also was accomplished by Vtyurina (96) on Sept. 30, 1995 at Dayton.
Brown's performance helped lead the Colonials to a 3-0 week with victories over La Salle, Massachusetts and URI. Brown's hitting percentage for the week was .508, a statistic that measures efficiency similar to batting average in baseball.
An All-Atlantic 10 Conference selection last season, Brown averaged 7.5 kills in the three matches.
Brown's statistics for the week: three matches, 10 games, 75 kills, 13 errors in 122 attempts for a .508 hitting percentage, one assist, five digs, six block assists and two block solos.
Winners of four straight matches and 11 of its last 12 games, GW (12-3, 4-1 A-10) next plays at Dayton Friday followed by a Saturday match with Xavier in Cincinnati.
