Volleyball's Win Streak Snapped at Six

WASHINGTON, DC (Oct. 11) - GW Volleyball's six-match winning streak was snapped Wednesday night by visiting Georgetown, 15-13, 9-15, 15-13, 15-9, at GW's Smith Center. The Hoyas, coached by former GW standout Li Liu, used a balanced attack, sharp serving and solid blocking to upend the Colonials.
Senior Suzana Manole recorded a triple-double with 15 kills, 11 assists and 15 digs while teammate Renee Arnold led four Colonials in double-figure kills with 16. Tracee Brown and Julie Jahnke contributed 14 kills each. Jahnke hit .462 for the match and also recorded four block assists leaving her just two shy of becoming the school's all-time leader in career block assists.
Georgetown took a 7-1 lead in game one before GW battled back to trail 13-12 on a kill by Brown. The Hoyas got a service ace from Laura Hart and evetually captured the game.
GW took command in game two going ahead 11-1 but had to hang on after Georgetown outscored GW, 8-3 to make the game interesting. Game three was a classic battle with neither team leading by more than three points and the teams combining for a total of 28 side-outs before Georgetown broke a 13-13 tie on a couple of GW attacking errors.
Game four was tied at 8-8 before the Hoyas put the match away with a 7-1 run.
The Hoyas (12-7) were led by Lauren Warner's 20 kills and 25 digs. Warner was one of five Hoyas with double-figure kills.
GW (14-4, 6-1 A-10) next travels to Pittsburgh to face Duquesne Friday, Oct. 13 in a 7:00 p.m. match.
