Coronel Named Head Volleyball Coach

Under Coronel, the GW Volleyball team is 14-3 (6-1 Atlantic 10). The Colonials are off to their best start since the 1994 season. Coronel, who was the Colonials' assistant coach in 1999, came to GW after spending five seasons as the assistant coach for men's volleyball program at the University of the Pacific, one of the top collegiate men's volleyball programs in the country.
A 1993 graduate of the University of California, Santa Cruz with a B.A. in political science, Coronel also served as UCSC head coach from 1993-95. He played collegiate volleyball at UC Santa Cruz from 1989-93. A four-year letterwinner as both a setter and defensive specialist, Coronel served as team captain for two years. He led UCSC to a combined four-year record of 74-42 (.638) and two Pacific Coast Volleyball Association championships in 1989 and 1991. The Los Angeles, CA, native has been an instructor at summer volleyball camps at Pacific, Stanford and UC Santa Barbara.
