OLEAN, NY (Oct. 4, 1999) -- The George Washington University golf team won the 11th Annual St. Bonaventure Leo Keenan Innvitational at Bartlett Country Club in southern New York state Monday. The Colonials fired a 607 (299-308) over the 36-hole event to run away from the 18-team field. GW finished nine strokes ahead of runner-up St. Bonaventure (616) and 12 strokes ahead of third-place Duquesne (619).
Sunday's round was highlighted by junior Darren Ressler's (Woodbridge, CT/Amity) hole-in-one on the 159-yard par 3 11th hole enroute to a four-over-par 74. It is believed to be the first ace by a GW golfer in competition. Sophomore Bryan Derdenger (Scottsdale, AZ/Chaparral) was the low Colonial placing second with a total 149 (76-73). Derdenger was helped by a eagle during Monday's round. He was four strokes off the pace set by St. Francis's (PA) John Handrigan (72-73=145).
Junior Gavin Parsons (Missoula, MT/Loyola Sacred Heart) carded a 152 (76-76) to tie for ninth place among 90 golfers. Teammate Thomas Blankvoort (Curacao, Netherlands Antilles/International School of the Hague) was two strokes behind Parsons with a 154 (73-81) placing him in a tie for 14th.
